“Camoradi”

Curious the adventure of “Camoradi”, an American billionaire who actually recalled Lucky Cassner. At the end of the 1950s, he arrived in Modena to buy six Maseratis to build a stable. He bought some Birdcages designed by the engineer Alfieri, had them painted in the American colors – white and blue – and then participated in a few races.

Castellotti

Even the Lombard Scuderia Castellotti, coming from Lodi and directed by Eugenio Castellotti (the driver who later died in testing at the Modena aerodrome in 1957), moved under the Ghirlandina to carry out its technical programme, i.e. install on an English chassis Cooper’s Ferrari 3000cc engine. 4 cylinders and to develop this racing car for the Intercontinental Formula which was to come into force in 1961. It made use of the collaboration of Giovanni Leoni, a former employee of Ferrari, who had his own workshop in Modena in Via Pelusia.

Center-South

The Scuderia Centro-Sud was transferred to Modena from Rome in 1957 by the owner and president, the Roman Guglielmo “Mimmo” Dei. He ran with Maserati mechanics and cars (Dei had been Maserati’s representative in Rome).

The Centro-Sud had its headquarters in front of the Aerautodromo where the Pilot School was also housed, directed by Piero Taruffi and recognized by the A.C.I. It was the first pilot school in Italy: it provided all the necessary theoretical and practical baggage for those who wanted to become a pilot. The “graduates”, complete with a patent, were as many as 200, coming from all parts of Italy. Among them there are also many famous personalities such as Eugenio Monti, the world bobsleigh champion, and the Olympic athletics champion Livio Berruti.

“With the Centro-Sud we also took part in the World Championship – says the mechanic Giulio Borsari who, after the closure of the Maserati racing department in 1957, moved to the Centro-Sud for three years, before joining Ferrari. – great sacrifices, since in that period there were no sponsors and therefore we were always in a very precarious financial balance: we only left with the money to arrive and, once we had collected the salary, we managed to go back.In those years it was very expensive keep a stable.

Those of the Centro-Sud were cars that had been competitive the year before, so the important thing was that they got to the end of the race: reaching the finish line was already a success. Then he got paid, some prizes… We also had Bandini and Von Trips, who raced the 1959 American GP with us because Ferrari – of which he was a driver – had not participated. In fact, at the Center-South there was no fixed team, but the driver arrived and practically rented the car (always an F1, first Maserati-Maserati, then Maserati-Cooper, already with the rear engine when Ferrari still had the front) .

The Centro-Sud closed at a certain moment. The last trip, which included six races, was that of 1960-’61, with Lorenzo Bandini, in Australia and New Zealand. It went quite well, but by now the closure was decided because there wasn’t enough money.”

Filippinetti

The Filippinetti was a Swiss racing team founded in Lausanne by Georges Filittitti in 1959 who in 1971 opened his own workshop in Formigine, near Modena, for the preparation and maintenance of the cars participating in the Italian races. The administrative office and the technical office were located in the same workshop. The team also made use of the work of Italian trainers Trivellato and Ferraris and the technical and sporting direction of ex-driver Mike Parkes. For a certain period, Nello Ugolini was also its sports director (cf.). Following the death of Filippitti in 1973, the team suspended all activities.

Overall, he had had some success: his cars, painted with the Swiss national colours, had competed in the tests of the World Championship for Makes and in those of the World Championship for F.1 Drivers: among the most representative drivers there were Maglioli, Siffert, Mairesse, Parkes, Bonnier and Peterson.

He had been able to count on rather competitive cars, such as Porsche, Ferrari and Lotus, which distinguished themselves in various competitions on all circuits of the world. The victory at the 1966 Targa Florio with Mairesse-Müller on a Porsche Carrera 6 was significant.

at Scuderia San Giorgio, the “engine” of motoring in Ferrara

The San Giorgio Amateur Sports Association, better known as Scuderia San Giorgio, was born in Ferrara in 1947 in the wake of the enthusiasm aroused by the participation in the XIV Mille Miglia of two crews from Ferrara; this participation in fact pushes a group of passionate drivers to give life, on the 17th of the following month of October, to the Scuderia which, since then, has never stopped its activity thus becoming not only the oldest but also the longest-lived Italian team , characterized by having always kept its amateur spirit unchanged, and therefore authentically sporty, of the highest level.
The first president, until 1953, was Edmondo Bucci.
In 1954 (under the name of Gruppo Sportivo) the Scuderia was included among the provincial sports federations and affiliated companies. In that year Gian Carlo Cassai became President, who remained in office until 1965.
From 1966 to 2002, Onofrio Colabella was its president, a pilot and enthusiast who, together with Carla Colabella, first co-pilot and then CSAI delegate for the province of Ferrara, began and fostered an intense and qualified organizational activity.
In 2003, following the death of Carla Colabella, her husband Onofrio passed the baton to Cesare Borsetti who, with great enthusiasm, continued the tradition by successfully organizing the 46th, 47th, 48th and 49th edition of the Col. Pil Trophy. Armando François, historic classic regularity race.

Serenissima

It belonged to the Venetian count Giovanni Volpi di Misurata. It was initially based in the Camellini garage, then found valid support in the workshop of Giorgio Neri and Luciano Bonacini, coming from the disbanded Maserati racing department. At a sporting level it was also directed by Nello Ugolini (cf.).

Founded in 1960, the Serenissima had Ferrari, Maserati, Stanguellini F.Junior and Porsche cars. For a certain period it presented itself to the races as Scuderia SSS Repubblica di Venezia because the Serenissima brand belonged to a Bologna-based Turismo Sport car factory in Pontecchio Marconi, the A.T.S., of which Count Volpi was one of the founding members. Following differences, however, he withdrew from the company and took back the brand, which then hit the slopes with a Sport prototype built in Modena. In fact, it was built by the engineers Massimino, Girolamo Ferrari Amoretti and Francesco Salomone; the latter is also responsible for the particular design of the bodywork, created by Gransport of Modena. The Sasamotor workshop, also in Modena, had been contacted for the construction.
