MY BIKE WON’T START, WHAT COULD BE THE PROBLEM?

Before purchasing our products, it is advisable to read the product sheet. If in doubt, do not hesitate to contact us, we will be happy to help you choose the product that best suits your needs

If you are looking for high quality products for your car or motorbike, look no further. We are sure you will find the perfect product for you at Racext. Do not hesitate to contact us with any questions or requests. We are here to help you make your vehicle perfect. In the second case, the motor tries to turn but either cannot or only barely turns. The issue is with the battery.

Has this ever happened to you? Without a doubt, yes. The bike won’t start, and you’re not sure where to begin… it started perfectly this morning, but now…

So, let’s look at the causes of this type of problem. There are several, so we’ll take it slowly and with patience.

The first thing we need to do is remain calm. We are in a hurry, but it will not help us solve the problem. Let us pause for a moment to reflect:

Is the bike attempting to start, or does it “do nothing”?

It differs greatly from one another. If there is nothing but silence when you press the start button, you have a problem. But when you try to start it, the engine strains and fails to turn (or only turns slightly); we’re in for another type of inconvenience.

In the second case, the motor tries to turn but either cannot or only barely turns. The issue is with the battery. And even more if, after a push, the motorcycle finally starts. It could even begin by connecting one battery to another (from another motorcycle or a car for example). If the battery fails again after charging for an extended period of time (for example, overnight), it should be replaced.

A common error is to try to force the boot by insisting and accelerating. This will only drain the battery further and risk “flooding” the motorcycle. Instead, try to determine the true source of the problem.

Let’s begin with the simplest.

– The fuel level
Isn’t it obvious? Maybe, but who hasn’t experienced this at some point? The first and most basic step is to check the fuel level. Even if the needle indicates that we have enough fuel, we should check the tank.

– Power outage
The switch (a red button with the inscriptions “on” and “off”) is located next to the start button. We must ensure that we have not unknowingly pressed him. When this button is pressed, the vehicle’s power is turned off. If this is the case, switch it back to “On” and try again.

– Leg on the side
The bike will not even try to start if the side stand is down and a gear is engaged. When this combination occurs, a switch cuts off the current for safety reasons. It is critical to ensure that you are not attempting to begin with the stop displayed and a gear in gear. If the toggle switch fails on some models, pressing the clutch (which releases the gear in gear) is a possible solution.

– Is there a proximity key on my motorcycle?
If this is the case, it is clearly one of the points to double-check before delving into potentially more complex issues. We must ensure that we have the proximity key and, if necessary, that we are not in an area where a frequency inhibitor may be present.

– Let’s take a look at the battery now.
The first thing we need to notice about the battery is that it makes contact. Check that the terminals are in good condition, have not been sulphated, and are not loose or loose. Once this is confirmed, we can proceed to assume that it is a charging issue or that the battery itself needs to be replaced. (However, we’ll see more of the latter when we get to the more complex checks.)

– Clogged reservoir breather
The fuel tank has vents that allow gases to escape and air to enter. This prevents the formation of a vacuum, which would otherwise prevent the normal circulation of gasoline. In the event of an obstruction (due to dirt, impurities, or dust), the vents cannot function properly, preventing fuel from circulating through the engine. The vents should be checked on a regular basis.

Let us now turn our attention to the more complicated causes.

. If you’ve done everything else and the bike still won’t start, it’s time to level up. In some cases, you may require the assistance of a professional. However, several people simply need to improve their skills and cheer up.

– Charge the battery
It’s more common than you might think. And it’s quite common, especially if the motorcycle has been sitting idle for a while. It is even more common during cold weather seasons. When the charge in the battery is insufficient to move the engine, we can start the motorcycle by pushing it slightly. In this case (whether it eventually starts or not), it is necessary to charge or replace the battery.

– Status of the starter motor
The starter motor is in charge of getting the motorcycle started. The motorcycle will not start if the engine fails. It is not always the result of a problem with the starter motor. It’s possible that the relay that activates the starter motor is faulty. This is indicated if the classic “click” is not heard when attempting to start the motorcycle.

– No gasoline reaches the engine.
Because the hose is visible on older or classic motorcycles, it is simple to determine if fuel is circulating beyond the tank. On more modern motorcycles, you must be more attentive and try to listen to the pump noise when applying pressure. When some pumps get hot, they stop working properly. As a result, the bike started cold, but then it didn’t.

– The spark produced by the spark plug
If the spark plugs are not in good condition, the necessary spark for starting may not be generated. To determine whether or not a spark is generated, one of the connecting cables is removed and placed a few millimeters from the spark plug. When the engine is started, a voltaic arc should form between the cable and the spark plug. (IMPORTANT: Wear insulating gloves at all times.)

– The state of the air filter
Air is one of the components of combustion. The explosion that provides force to the vehicle’s movement will not occur if there is no air. As a result, if the air filter is in poor condition or is extremely dirty, no air may reach the engine (or insufficient). It is best to keep it clean and replace it on a regular basis, as directed by the manufacturer.

– Do you have a coded key for your motorcycle?
If this is the case, your motorcycle has an electric immobilizer. This device prevents the motorcycle from starting if a specific key with a specific code is not detected. It is possible that even with the corresponding key, the motorcycle will not start. This could be due to an immobilizer malfunction or fault.

Consult a professional.

If the motorcycle still does not start after all of these checks. The time has come to attend a workshop and seek expert advice.
