Kawasaki’s new models: Z900 SE, Z900RS SE, KLX230S and KX450SR
The Z650RS is the clear headliner among Kawasaki’s 2022 versions. Four other models – two street and two dirty – might also tickle your fancy as variations of popular models.
Here’s the rest of the 22s. The main theme that connects all of them is the modified suspension from previous models, as well as additional hardware and technology for the three non-cheap bikes.

2022 Kawasaki Z900 SE
The Z900 gets the SE treatment with this updated variation. The big news here is the addition of an Öhlins S46 rear shock with remotely adjustable preload and adjustable rebound damping. The Z900 SE also features a pair of Brembo M4.32 Monobloc calipers. Zack praised the base Z900’s suspension in his first driving review, but these improvements make the Z sharper than ever.
SE probably stands for “Special Edition”, but it could be “Suspension: expensive”.
The only downside is a seven-pound weight gain (469.7 wet, claimed) and a price jump from € 9,099 base to € 10,699. It would have been nice to see better tires included in that price, but they will still appeal to riders who start improving their suspension and brakes regardless.
Root beer / orange may have been the most memorable Z paint option, but “Yellow Ball” wasn’t far behind. Z900RS SE. 2022 Kawasaki Z900 RS SE
The retro Z900RS is heavily based on the Z900, so Kawasaki took the opportunity to give their retro the SE treatment as well. The Öhlins S46 rear shock absorber and Brembo M4.32 monobloc calipers are carried over, along with gold anodizing for the fork legs to match the shock … even if the fork is not an Öhlins unit.
The brakes are the same specifications as the Z H2. Z900RS SE.
The most interesting, albeit least useful, improvement is a limited reissue of Kawasaki’s iconic “Yellow Ball” paint that dates back to the original Z bikes. The SE paint and suspension carry a premium of € 2,000 over the base RS, although the weight has somewhat dropped to 472lbs.
Simpler standover means more safety for shorter riders.
2022 Kawasaki KLX230S and KLX230S ABS
Moving on to the dirty / dual-sport world, Kawasaki continues its series of suspension modifications for the KLX230S and KLX230 ABS. These are shortened versions of the trusty KLX230 for riders who want an easier time to set foot in the dirt.
The lowered package comes at a slight premium over the standard version, but is still cheaper than buying a lowering kit and installing it yourself.
The seat height has been reduced from 34.8 inches to 32.7 inches, with corresponding reductions in travel of approximately two inches front and rear. Even so, reducing seat height and suspension travel is generally preferable to ditching the 21/18 wheelset like some of the “small wheel” sports and dirt bikes offered by Japanese manufacturers in the past. The KLX230S base is € 4,799 or € 5,099 with ABS.
This is the closest way to owning a Kawasaki racing bike, without actually buying one.
2022 Kawasaki KX450SR
SR stands for “Special Racer,” according to Kawasaki, and this limited model gets upgrades from nose to tail with a replica race treatment based on the Monster Energy Kawasaki factory motocross bike. ’21. Team Green’s race partners provide a range of high-performance components for this unique model aimed at hardcore enthusiasts.
A long list of upgrades distinguishes the “Special Racer”.
There’s a Titanium Pro Circuit Ti-6 Pro race exhaust, XTRIG ROCS-TECH triple clamps, a progressive handlebar damping system (PHDS, also from XTRIG) , DID Dirt Star ST-X alloy wheels, a gold DID chain, a Renthal sprocket, a Hinson clutch cover and KYB front suspension with Diamond-Like (DLC) coating on the fork legs for a stock racing look. Factory-style graphics complete the look. Finally, the KX450SR gets glossy intake lights and special FI mapping for sharper performance. Pretend you’re on the Monster Energy Kawasaki racing team for € 12,399.
More new templates will arrive in November, but for now it looks like Kawi is focused on getting more out of the existing line with modifications and special editions. Check back in about a month for more coverage of green cars.

Once we receive and inspect the merchandise, the refund will be processed using the payment method used by the customer within 5 business days from the date of receipt. This time allows us to inspect the merchandise and restock it.
