His record includes four world titles, 51 victories and 33 pole positions. A record for who he was the greatest enemy of Ayrton Senna
Alain Marie Pascal Prost was born on February 24, 1955 in Loire, a French town. Prost grew up in a family of artisans who made kitchen furniture as well as chairs and tables; but Alain never had the intention of continuing with the profession of his parents since he was a lover of speed which would lead him to be interested in the motor world.
Prost had another brother: Daniel who died in 1986 due to cancer, something that marked the French driver forever. |
When he was 18 years old, Prost began to fight for his racing career, dedicating himself fully to the motor world until he finally managed to win the French junior kart championship.
But not everything was there because he also won the title in the same category but in the European Championship. While when he reached the world championship of the Karts modality he was in 14th place.
Alain Prost had started his car career and could not stop. This driver continued his career in the motor world by participating in the Formula Renault championships.
Later he launched himself fully into Formula 3, a modality of which he emerged as the winner. For this reason, and when the McLaren team saw that Prost was a raw goldmine, they invited him to be part of his team.
His entry into Formula One took place on January 13, 1980, achieving sixth place in the Argentine Grand Prix, in addition to this race he also added a point with which the qualities of the French driver began to be seen, which did not go unnoticed in the championship.
The competitions led by McLaren continued to take place and after the test in Argentina, the Frenchman achieved fifth place in the Brazilian circuit.
Unfortunately for the driver, his good luck ended when he arrived at the South African Prix where he suffered a minor injury. Despite this last event, Prost was already a figure in Formula One and his races with McLaren helped him receive different offers from other teams.
In the end, the Frenchman decided to become part of the Renault team in 1981, it was with this team that he won three major titles.
Already in 1984 he decided to return to the team that saw him born in Formula One, and once again he returned to racing on the track bearing the McLaren brand name.
With this team he rose again with two other great titles, since in 1986 and 1989 he was consecrated as world champion.
This pilot nicknamed “the professor” for the fact of being a kind of human calculator spent 13 years of his life fully dedicated to …
But in McLaren there was also his great enemy, Ayrton Senna and already tired of the continuous fights that the two frequently had, he decided to change teams.
So in 1990 he moved to the ranks of Ferrari. Alain Prost’s luck in this team was not good since the year he stayed with the Maranello team he failed to win the title against his eternal rival, Senna.
This year, in 1991 Prost was in a bad mood since he could not win any title while racing with Enzo Ferrari’s cars.
These defeats made the Frenchman rethink his professional career and he decided to leave the courts as he was not at his best physically.
Yes, 1992 arrived, and Prost abandoned the cars and the Formula One circuit.
The following year he would dedicate to broadcasting as a television commentator the races in which his old rivals were still fighting for the titles.
Obviously the French driver could not leave the circuits forever and in 1993 he returned to the tracks.
This time the pilot decided to be part of another team, he would be part of the Williams team.
That year was brilliant for Prost who, after spending a year off the track, arrived with more desire for victory than ever, so he won seven races and took his fourth world championship.
Despite his good streak, Alain Prost decided that his career as a driver had come to an end and that his professional career had brought him great successes for which he would never be forgotten.
Thus, in 1993, the Frenchman said goodbye to the Formula One circuits, leaving a path of number ones in his disputed prizes. This driver nicknamed “the professor” for being a kind of human calculator spent 13 years of his life fully dedicated to the world of motorsports.
Alain Prost won four world championships in 1985, 1986, 1989 and 1993, the last year of his career in which he said goodbye, leaving a good taste in the mouth of his audience. In addition, the Frenchman stood out with 51 victories achieved in 199 Grand Prix in which he raced on the tracks.
Alain Prost, a French driver who caused a sensation with his excellent races and one of the main factors for the French public to become a lover of Formula One. This man always said that human relations did not exist on the circuit tracks. Alain Prost, one of the great myths of this sport.
